AIMS
This brief invites student to build on their reflections and learnings from the 1st workshop and question their experience and relationship with libraries. This is likely to be very personal introspection, starting with early childhood memories going through school years to current interaction with libraries as keen young researchers in academic and professional capacity. Students are invited to interrogate and understand the place libraries had and have in the life of an individual, as well as its societal role. Building on these reflections, we could imagine their future – as designers, architects, visionary thinkers.
METHOD
Students are invited to design a library for today and the future, after critically appraising their understanding of innocence, play, rebelliousness, study, digitalisation, media, adapt/reuse…[list is long]. The workshop has three steps:
1 _individual introspection and research, groups collation of ideas
2 _group concept and
3 _design development to produce a final proposal [any media]
TECHNIQUE
Students are encouraged to select and use methods of representation/ media appropriate to the stage of the design process and their own project [refer to ideas, methods, techniques introduced in previous workshops and own tried and tested methods of illustration]
STRENGTHS
_Analytical introspection
_Critical thinking
_Abstraction and
Conceptualisation
